Chemistry Honors – Finishing the Semester

For the final unit of study in this course, we will learn about the properties of aqueous solutions (Chapter 11 in the textbook). The final exam for the semester will only deal with this topic, and how this topic relates to connected ideas from this semester. The plan for the final days in the course is as follows:

  • Class 56 – Sections 11.1-11.3 (class work)
  • Class 57 – Lab: Solubility v Temperature (lab prep required)
  • Class 58 – Sections 11.5 & 11.7 (class work)
  • Class 59 – Review Chapter (in-class work)
  • Class 60 – Review for Final (in-class work)
  • (Minimum Day = Class 61)
  • Final Exam – Lab Practicum

Required Work

The required work for the unit will consist of three types of activities: chapter notes, chapter problems, lab work. The outline is detailed below:

  • Chapter Notes: 11.1, 11.2, 11.3, 11.5, 11.7 (due 5/21 PDF to Schoology)

  • Lab Prep & Report: Solubility Dependence on Temperature (due 5/21)

Final Exam

The final exam will consist of planning, conducting and analyzing a lab. The lab will be prepared before the final exam period and conducted and reported during the final exam period. The entire final exam process should take no more than two hours of your time.

  • Final Lab Topic: Molar Mass Determination Using Boiling Point Elevation
  • Reporting: Purpose, Procedure, Background Theory, Data, Calculations, Analysis, Conclusion
