EDU4113 – B – Microsoft Excel

Create a grade book spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel. Requirements for Grade Book:

  • Three (3) student information columns (Last Name, First Name, Student ID) for at least 10 students (real or fictitious)
  • Two grade categories with three or more assignments in each category
  • Subtotals for each category – total points, percentages
  • Total grade for each student in the class
  • Average score for each assignment and category
  • Use of the functions: CONCATENATION, SUM, AVERAGE
  • Name your file using your first and last name with the word “gradebook” (i.e. colin-quinton-gradebook)
  • Then, upload the file to Google Docs and share the spreadsheet to make it public.
  • Create an entry in your blog about how a spreadsheet could be useful in your teaching as both a colleague and a teacher. Include a linked word to the posted gradebook. (do not embed – simply post the active link)
  • In addition, explain how this tool addresses the ISTE teaching standard: Model Digital-Age Work and Learning.

Use Google Documents to collaborate with colleagues and students

  • Upload a Microsoft Word document to Google Docs
  • Note: the document should relate to your teaching
  • Please do not create a new document for this assignment (unless you wish to do so for yourself)
  • Invite a colleague to collaborate with you on your document.
  • Share the document publicly (read only)
  • Create a new post on your blog.
  • Write a reflection in this post on the potential uses of this collaboration. Be sure and comment on the possible uses as a colleague and as an instructor, including sample scenarios.
  • Be sure and include a link to the publicly-shared document in your post. Note: make a word in the post an active link

EDU4113 – A – Classroom Blog

Create a blog for use in your classroom

  • Using “Blogger,” create a blog that will host this course’s content
  • The name of your blog (not the URL) must contain your first name.
  • The blog should be directed towards parents or students as the goal of this blog to that it could actually be used for your teaching in some manner.
  • Create a blog posting that has your picture along with a description of your interests (Blog Post Title: “About Me”) You do not need your full name although your first name is required.
  • As formatting does not transfer well from other applications (Microsoft Word), your text should be copied in plain format before pasting into your blog.
  • Many help resources available
  • Make your first blog entry, commenting on your initial thoughts about creating a blog.
  • Be sure and enter your blog’s full URL in the appropriate location in the class survey form on the first day of class.
